Tracking the Climb

Wednesday May 26: Shaunna Burke is forced to abandon her summit push. She spent an amazing three days in the “Death Zone” waiting for a break in the weather in order to make her climb to the summit. However, strong winds and the cold temperature kept Shaunna and her team of Sherpas from reaching the top.

According to Mike Swarbrick, the Base Camp technician for the Expedition 2004 team, Shaunna seemed to be extremely strong in mind and spirit during a radio transmission. Unfortunately, the elements have worked against her today. Nevertheless, her perseverance and determination to hang on as long as possible at Camp IV in order to make her summit push is truly amazing.

Great Effort Shaunna!
