The Trek to Base Camp

| The journey up Mount Everest begins
with a flight from
Kathmandu to Lukla, a small village at 2,800 metres
about sea level.

From there, they will trek all the way to Base Camp,
which has an elevation of 5,364 metres.
Hiking to Base Camp is part of the acclimitization process.
This trek will take about 10 days and will involve stopping
at various points in order to rest and adjust to the
increase in altitude.

| One stop that trekkers will will make is at Namche
Bazaar,
a market town that sits 3,440 m above sea level. |

Tengboche Monastery is another popular
place to stop. At 3,800 m, it offers a magnificent view of
Mount Everest. Established by Lama Gulu in 1916, it was the
first celibate monastery in the region.
