Help Lesotho (HL) is a small and rapidly growing Canadian registered charity partnering public, private and volunteer resources to mitigate against gender inequity and HIV/AIDS in Lesotho. HL builds partnerships with community leadership and organizations in both countries to support locally initiated, championed and managed projects for the benefit of orphans, vulnerable children and youth in Lesotho. Key programs include child sponsorship, twinned schools and gender equity and HIV/AIDS Clubs. Its literacy, gender equity, HIV/AIDS mainstreaming and leadership development initiatives involve multi-year partnerships of common goals, policies and practices to ensure financial and community accountability. HL partners in Lesotho with Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, local chiefs, district education Officers, Local Government Councils and their Secretaries, Lesotho Olympic Committee, Common Wealth Games Lesotho, World Food Program, Red Cross, Blue Cross, Population Services Information – New Start, local NGOs, school principals, community based organizations and faith based organizations.

In January 2007, Help Lesotho will hold it second annual Leadership Camp in the village of Pitseng.  This exposes the students to young people from other villages, promotes leadership in the community and personal responsibility through fun activities, workshops, sports, HIV/AIDS education, gender equity workshops, team building, and discussion. Throughout the year, sponsored students can look forward to attending these camps. Approximately 70-75% of campers are orphans. The SWBP team will be visiting the camp and filming participants in their activities.  This will be an opportunity to record and transmit camp life and demonstrate ways in which Help Lesotho is building up Lesotho’s future through the development and education of its future leaders.
