The journey that you are about to embark on is not only a geographical one through the continent of Africa. It is a journey whereby you will meet people and go to places that perhaps you will only be able to dream about. Through this expedition, you will come to learn about the people of Africa, their history and culture, but also their hardships (e.g.. poverty, HIV/AIDS, war, etc.) and positive developments that are taking place. Finally, this journey is also a spiritual one. You will begin this journey by examining the spiritual legacy that begins with St. Mark traveling to Egypt, where Christian communities began to sprout up almost 2000 years ago. Hopefully, this expedition will also be an interior journey of the heart.

Note: the topics can easily be adapted for the Religious Education program, elementary student or the high school student. Furthermore, the strands of Scripture, Profession of Faith, and Prayer and Sacramental Life will be the main focus.

Each topic indicated above can become its own research project. Within each topic, initial background information will be provided. Research ideas and, where possible, activities will also be provided. Numerous annotated web sites are included!!!
